Resumo: This article aims to analyze the Parmalat financialscandal, focusing specifically on the use of fraudulent accountingdocuments. The research method employed was inductive,supported by a literature review. Initially, the study exploresthe use of fraudulent accounting documents and their impact on economic development and corporate credibility. Subsequently, thisresearch delves into the Parmalat case and the financial scandal thatengulfed the corporation in 2003, which was largely due to the useof fraudulent accounting documents. Lastly, the study investigatesissues related to agency conflict and the role of corporate governancein preventing accounting fraud. The conclusion highlightsParmalat’s failure to adopt a corporate governance system, giventhe evident agency conflict and the clear concentration of authoritybetween the board of directors and the executive presidency.

Para tanto, o método deabordagem seguido foi o indutivo, com a utilização de pesquisabibliográfica. Nesta perspectiva, inicialmente foram abordadoso uso da documentação contábil falsa e seus impactos nodesenvolvimento econômico e na credibilidade das empresas.Posteriormente, a pesquisa se debruçou no estudo do casoParmalat e do escândalo financeiro ocorrido com a corporaçãoem 2003, a partir do uso de documentação contábil falsa. Porderradeiro, investigou-se as questões relativas ao conflito deagência e as contribuições da governança corporativa para ocombate às fraudes contábeis.
