Resumo: The work deals with, latu sensu, the institute of security measure and your actual provisons at the brazilian criminal code, particularly wih regard to its maximum duration limit. Therefore, the article focus, initially, on elements of criminal penalties and your subdivisions in pen and security measure. After that, the paper analyzes the legal nature, species and assumptions for the application of that institute. In the end, at long last, it explains the specific problem of this article, with the study about the limits of the maximum doration of secrity measure, with the analysis of doctrinal and jurisprudential positions about this point, with the final conclusion, using the criminal principles for embasement.

Trata, lato sensu, do instituto da medida de segurança e suas vigentes disposições no Código Penal brasileiro, especialmente no que concerne ao seu limite máximo de duração. Para tanto, aborda, inicialmente, aspectos das sanções penais e suas subdivisões em pena e medida de segurança. Em seguida, analisa-se natureza jurídica, espécies e pressupostos para aplicação do citado instituto.
