The semantic values oh the prepositions “a” and “para” in manuscripts of the XVIII and XIX centuries

Resumo: This paper presents a survey of the occurrences of the prepositions a and para in documents from Villa Antonina in order to study their semantic values. The corpus consists of manuscript documents that were transcribed and gone through a semi-diplomatic edition. Five grammar books were consulted as references to verify the values assigned to the prepositions a and para: Napoleão Mendes de Almeida (1999), Gladstone Chaves de Melo (1968), Rocha Lima (2003), Celso Cunha (1981) and Evanildo Bechara (2004). The preposition a had 283 occurrences a and there were 128 occurrences of the preposition para found in 34 documents. These documents were written in a period between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. All the prepositions a and para were pulled from the text with the software tool Lexico3. The semantic classification of prepositions was done with the program Systemic Coder, which creates a table showing the frequency of use of each preposition and their respective semantic values.

O corpus é constituído de documentos manuscritos que foram transcritos e passaram por edição semidiplomática. Como referência para verificar os valores atribuídos às preposições “a”e “para” foram consultadas cinco gramáticas: Napoleão Mendes de ALMEIDA (1999), Gladstone Chaves de MELO (1968), Rocha LIMA (2003), Celso CUNHA (1981), e Evanildo BECHARA (2004), Nos 34 documentos, foram encontradas 283 ocorrências da preposição a, e 128 ocorrências da preposição para. Esta produção ocorreu num período compreendido entre os séculos XVIII e XIX. Todas as preposições “a”e “para” foram retiradas do texto com o auxílio da ferramenta Lexico3.
