The Semiology of Graphics, which was created in the late 1960s in France, came to Brazil only in the 1980s from articles publications in national periodicals introduced by the translation of Bertin’s works and other researchers of this theory such as Serge Bonin and Roberto Gimeno. During the thirty-seven years of the Semiology in Brazil, this current based several scientific works such as dissertations and thesis which used it as teaching methodology and guidance for making thematic maps. Therefore, through this brief historical rescue, this work intend to expose the studies of the Semiology of Graphics made in Brazil between the 1980 and 2015 highlighting the main researchers and their work which contributed to the dissemination and consolidation of this theory as a teaching methodology and research in Brazilian Cartography.
