Dialogue between human-computer interaction and science, technology and society

Resumo: Introduction: The information and communication technologies (ICT) are included in a large part of the people´s daily routine. The user ability to understand and make a better use of a particular technology is the study subject of the Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). The ICT spreading and centrality comprehension has been object of analysis for the field known as Science and Technology Social Studies (STSS). Objective: A discussion about the terminologies related to Human-Computer Interaction; Science, Technology and Society (STS) field and STSS, in order to relate them. Methodology: The studied sources were articles from periodicals and books, both publications selected according to the author relevance about the subject. Results: Studies have been found in both fields that are useful not only for the HCI area but also for the STS field. Conclusions: The STS field and the HCI studies are interconnected, since while the IHC cares about developing more complex and complete technologies, the STS field analyzes these technological innovations from the point of view of the impacts caused in the society and the environment.

La capacidad del usuario para comprender y hacer un buen uso de una determinada tecnología es objeto de estudio de la Interacción Humano-Computadora (IHC). La comprensión de la diseminación y de la centralidad de las TIC han sido objeto de análisis del campo conocido como Estudios Sociales de la Ciencia y Tecnología (ESCT). Objetivo: Discutiremos las terminologías relacionadas con la Interacción Hombre-Computadora, al campo de la Ciencia, Tecnología y Sociedad (CTS) y a los ESCT, con el fin de relacionarlos. Metodología: Las fuentes utilizadas fueron artículos de revistas y libros, ambas publicaciones seleccionadas en función de la relevancia del autor para el tema. Resultados: Se han encontrado estudios en ambos campos que sirven tanto al área IHC como al campo CTS. Conclusiones: El campo CTS y los estudios en IHC se encuentran interconectados, ya que mientras la IHC se preocupa por desarrollar tecnologías más complejas y completas, el campo CTS analiza estas innovaciones tecnológicas desde el punto de vista de los impactos causados a la sociedad y al medio ambiente.Introdução: As tecnologias de informação e comunicação (TIC) estão presentes em boa parte do dia a dia das pessoas. A capacidade do usuário compreender e fazer bom uso de uma determinada tecnologia é objeto de estudo da Interação Humano-Computador (IHC). A compreensão da disseminação e da centralidade das TIC tem sido objeto de análise do campo conhecido como Estudos Sociais da Ciência e Tecnologia (ESCT). Objetivo: Discorre-se sobre as terminologias relacionadas à Interação Humano-Computador, ao campo da Ciência, Tecnologia e Sociedade (CTS) e dos ESCT, de modo a relacioná-los. Metodologia: As fontes utilizadas foram artigos de periódicos e livros, selecionados conforme a relevância do autor para com a temática. Resultados: Foram encontrados estudos em ambos os campos que servem tanto à área da IHC quanto ao campo CTS.
