Indexing policy and its meanings: a study based on discourse analysis

Introduction: The topic of indexation policy is discussed by different authors in order to improve indexing processes for information representation and retrieval. Objective: To verify the discursive formulations currently performed in this universe and how they are characterized in the context of Organization and Representation of Information. Methodology: Qualitative and descriptive research, articles on the indexation policy published in the last five years, 2011-2016, were analyzed in national scientific journals in the area of "Communication and Information", which encompasses periodicals of Information Science classified in Qualis-Periodicals with A1 stratification. The approach of Discourse Analysis employed is the one of French origin, having as theoretical foundation the conceptual framework of Michel Pêcheux. Results: It was realized, through the analysis operation, that the statements produced on indexation policies can be understood as a guide and also as a philosophy. Conclusions: The subjects search for more in-depth studies on the subject, aiming at the improvement of the indexing processes in an ideal of constant qualification, so that the policy is seen not only as a manual of process orientation, but also as something that reflects the nature and organizational culture of the information unit regarding Organization and Representation of Information.
