Meanings assigned to suicidal behavior by female adolescents

Resumo: The present article aimed to analyze the suicidal behavior of adolescents admitted to Basic Health Units (UBSs) in a city in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. According to the World Health Organization, the period of adolescence is increasingly vulnerable to this phenomenon, observing a gradual increase in the number of deaths by suicide in this period of development, which highlights the importance of investigating the theme. This qualitative research had the participation of thirteen female adolescents. The data were collected through a semi-structured interview and analyzed by Content Analysis. The results are presented in two categories: category I verifies the adolescents' perception of suicidal behavior, prevalent methods used in suicide attempts; Category II, moreover, presents meanings associated with the desire to die and risk and protection factors for this target audience.

Según la Organización Mundial de la Salud, la adolescencia es un período cada vez más vulnerable a este fenómeno, observando un aumento gradual en el número de muertes por suicidio en este período de desarrollo, lo que destaca la importancia de investigar el tema. Esta investigación cualitativa contó con la participación de trece adolescentes de sexo femenino, los datos fueron recolectados a través de entrevistas semiestructuradas y analizados por el análisis de contenido. Los resultados se presentan en dos categorías: Categoría I verifica la percepción de los adolescentes sobre el comportamiento suicida, los métodos prevalentes utilizados en los intentos de suicidio; Categoría II tiene significados asociados con el deseo de morir y los factores de riesgo y protección para este público.Este estudo teve como objetivo analisar o comportamento suicida de adolescentes acolhidas em Unidades Básicas de Saúde (UBSs) de um município no interior Estado do Rio Grande do Sul. Segundo a Organização Mundial da Saúde, o período da adolescência mostra-se cada vez mais vulnerável a esse fenômeno, observando um crescimento gradativo do número de mortes por suicídio neste período do desenvolvimento, o que ressalta a importância de investigar a temática. Esta pesquisa qualitativa contou com a participação de treze adolescentes do sexo feminino, os dados foram coletados através de uma entrevista semiestruturada e analisados pela Análise de Conteúdo.
