Resumo: The chronicle is a literary gender strictly joined to a temporal idea (chronos = time). It is because the chronicle inherited some characteristics from journalism too, specially the instantaneous element. Coming from Europe, the chronicle adapted itself without problems at Brazilian territory, conquering the newspaper's readers from XIX century. Talking about the facts of the day, the chronicle converted to a popular gender, cultivated by authors like Jose de Alencar, Machado de Assis and Lima Barreto, whose developed their owner styles, profiting the opportunity to make them famous. It was not different considering Graciliano Ramos. After publishing his poems in "Palmeira dos Índios" newspapers, he was seduced by journalistic companies, going to Rio de Janeiro in 1915. It was in this city that he started to write his first chronicles, which were joined with another ones produced later, in a book called Linhas Tortas, the same name from his column in the news. However, because of negligence with the treat of the chronicle from the literary and journalistic studies, the researchers have forgot this book, as we see there is few works about it. So there is the importance in studying this theme. Considering that the chronicle is situated between the reality and the fiction, this research has the objective to present a study about this duality and the dialogue between journalism and literature in the gender. It was chosen the social approach from the theory by Antonio Candido to develop the analysis, because the fact and the historical context are very important elements in the chronicle's constitution. Firstly, it was made an introduction study to the corpus because its heterogeneity, presenting the moment that they were written. Immediately, through a bibliographic research, it was made a structural, stylistic and thematic analysis into the chosen corpus. Finally, it was identified the dialogue between fiction and reality at the chronicle. From these readings, there's the conclusion that journalism and literature can be together to create a working considered great for the readers and the critics.

Finally, it was identified the dialogue between fiction and reality at the chronicle. From these readings, there's the conclusion that journalism and literature can be together to create a working considered great for the readers and the critics.
