Resumo: | This work is part of a broader inquiry about discursivities around training physical education teachers in Uruguay (1974-1948). From some theoretical involvement of the french discourse analysis (Pecheux, 1990), addresses the texts written by Jess T. Hopkins concerning the institutionalization of physical education in Uruguay, during their stay in the country between 1912 and 1927. It shows how, with the advent of the association of the Young Men Christian Asociation (YMCA) to Uruguay, certain encumbrances happened that afected the education of the body leading to considerate more important sports development than the gymnastics and to introduce the voluntary work through leaders. Throughout the work it showns a discursivity that synthesizes the normalism, characteristic of training teachers, and the technicist and professionalist, characteristic of "physical director" programs of American universities of the YMCA. |

Este trabajo forma parte de una indagación más amplia sobre las discursividades en torno a la formación de docentes de educación física en Uruguay (1974-1948). Desde cierta afectación teórica del análisis de discurso francés (PÊCHEUX, 1990), se abordan los textos escritos por Jess T. Hopkins, referente en la institucionalización de la educación física en el Uruguay, en su estadía en el país entre los años 1912 y 1927. Se muestra como, con la llegada del asociacionismo de la Young Men Christian Asociation (YMCA) al Uruguay, se dieron ciertas afectaciones sobre la educación del cuerpo que llevaron a priorizar los sports frente a la gimnasia y el trabajo voluntario por medio de líderes.
