PERSPECTIVES FOR THE TEACHING OF WRITNG TO DEAF STUDENTS USERS OF LIBRAS

Resumo: | This paper presents a discussion on the challenge of the appropriation of writing of deaf student users of Brazilian Sign Language – LIBRAS. The advent of bilingual education proposal boosted the academic performance of deaf individuals in Brazil, however a significant portion of deaf people users of Librasshow serious difficulties in reading and writing, even at the end of basic and higher education. In the search for the best solution for this problem, some authors, based on cognitive neuropsychology, propose the adoption of a fully bilingualism, to ensure the deaf the acquisition of sign writing, internationally known as signwriting system, as their first written language. Despite recognition of the advantages of this new domain system written by the deaf, it is considered appropriate that the teaching of writing in Portuguese is a goal to be achieved in the field of deafness |

A condução eficaz do ensino da escrita para alunos surdos é ainda um desafio de grandes proporções para educadores da área. O advento da proposta bilíngue de educação impulsionou o desempenho escolar de sujeitos surdos no Brasil, porém uma parcela expressiva dos usuários de Libras evidencia sérias dificuldades de leitura e escrita, mesmo ao término da educação básica e superior. Na busca do melhor encaminhamento para a solução desse problema, alguns autores, fundamentados na neuropsicologia cognitiva, propõem a adoção de um bilinguismo pleno, que assegure ao surdo a aquisição da escrita dos sinais como primeira língua escrita.
