Resumo: Current analysis comprises a formation experience developed with Math teachers in the early years of schooling in state-run schools. It aims at investigating the process of teacher learning from a teaching activity developed in a teacher formation course. Concepts which are constitutive of a numeration system and basic operations are worked on since these concepts are relevant for the appropriation process of mathematical language. Concepts were developed so that teachers would appropriate them in the form in which they would be taught to the students. Preparation, presentation and reflections on solutions to situation-problem constitute the stages involved. Teachers understood the complexity that involved the numeration system and the teaching practice of the subject matter which is frequently given in a mechanical and decontextualized manner, without working on the concepts involved in the numeration system. The teaching activity also included the history of the number system beyond the history of facts. The production system of decimal numeration coupled to a discussion on its constitutive concepts could be perceived as from the production of teachers.

The production system of decimal numeration coupled to a discussion on its constitutive concepts could be perceived as from the production of teachers.     Este texto faz parte de uma experiência formativa desenvolvida com professores que ensinam matemática nos anos iniciais de escolarização da rede pública de ensino. O objetivo principal consistiu em refletir sobre o processo de aprendizagem docente a partir de uma atividade de ensino desenvolvida em um curso de formação de professores. Para isso, trabalhamos com os conceitos constitutivos de um sistema de numeração e as operações fundamentais, visto que esses conceitos são fundamentais para o processo de apropriação da linguagem matemática. Esses conceitos foram desenvolvidos de modo que os professores apropriassem dos mesmos, articulados com a forma de ensiná-los aos escolares. As etapas de trabalho envolveu: elaboração, apresentação e reflexão das soluções da situação-problema. Essa experiência permitiu que os professores compreendessem a complexidade que envolve um sistema de numeração, bem como a reflexão sobre a prática de ensino deste conteúdo junto às crianças, a qual muitas vezes ocorre de forma descontextualizada e mecânica, sem ao menos trabalhar com os conceitos envolvidos no sistema de numeração. Outro ponto é que com essa atividade de ensino foi trabalhada elementos da história do sistema de numeração para além da história factual.
