Resumo: | Current paper discusses the appropriation process of scientific concepts in the practice of school literacy with the textual genre Cartoon or Comic Book by young people and adults with mental deficiency. The scientific concept is formed when mediated by signs, through different interactions, as from situations of systemized teaching. Historical-cultural and textual genre theories were the foregrounding epistemologies. Research was performed in a public school that specifically attended young people and adults diagnosed with intellectual disability. The four agents who participated in current research were followed up in teaching and learning situations on the selected textual genre. Concepts that the subjects already knew were initially identified and direct interventions were planned which were then recorded and transcribed for analysis. After a semester intervention, results showed that the subjects appropriated the scientific concepts related to the genre Cartoon, with an improvement in literacy through adequate appropriations |
