Federal institutes in the Universidade Aberta do Brasil: a brief portrait

Resumo: | On line education has been growing significantly in Brazil since the creation of Universidade Aberta doBrasil (UAB). Most of the institutions who offer graduation and post-graduation have been increasing theirparticipation on this program throughout new offers, new courses, new teaching centers and much morestudents. On this scenery, the Federal Institutes of Education, Science and Technology (IF) participation,however, is still small. Only 17 out of the 103 institutions that participate of UAB are Federal Institutes. Thisarticle tries to draw a brief portrait of the insertion of the Federal Institutes in the UAB, pointing out theirdifferent offers and different levels of courses. To achieve this goal, it is necessary to analyze officialdocuments, as laws and decrees as well as use the SisUAB (http://sisuab.capes.gov.br/sisuab) as a source ofinformation. SisUAB is an on line platform that gives data support to managers of UAB all over Brazil aswell as helps its control by the agency of government responsible for this program, the Coordenação deAperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES). To conclude this study, it is also necessary to builda brief history of IF, such an old and new institution, discussing its social functions and identity as well asother on line education offers that are more common to the Federal Institutes than UAB. All these data willprovide the construction of the participation of Federal Institutes in the UAB system. |

A participação de todas as instituições públicas de Ensino Superior, apropósito, tem crescido em número de ofertas, em quantidade de cursos e em número de polos. Aparticipação dos Institutos Federais de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia (IF) nessa oferta, no entanto, ainda sedá de forma tímida. Das 103 instituições participantes da UAB, apenas 17 são IF. O foco deste artigo é traçarum retrato da participação dos IF na UAB, indicando seus principais cursos e os diferentes níveis de oferta.Para a consecução desse objetivo, fizemos análise de documentos oficiais como leis e decretos educacionais ea consulta ao SisUAB (http://sisuab.capes.gov.br/sisuab), plataforma de apoio à execução, aoacompanhamento e à gestão das ações da UAB por parte de Coordenadores UAB e da Coordenação deAperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (Capes). Para desenvolvermos esse caminho, faz-se necessárioconstruir um breve histórico dessa instituição ao mesmo tempo tão recente e tão antiga, discutindo a suarealidade e a sua função educacional. Além disso, também é importante apresentarmos outras ofertas de EaDque fazem parte da realidade dos institutos, com maior peso, talvez, que a UAB.
