Resumo: | The process of aging and old age are coated with prejudices and negative stigmas. Although the growth and aging population, Brazil has still not equated satisfactorily on the legal education for the elderly. This article reflects on public policy and education for the elderly, presenting a survey of the issues addressed in the theses and dissertations about the elderly, conducted between 2000 to 2009, in the courses recognized and recommended by CAPES, thus tracing the state of knowledge of this subject . The theoretical framework is based on a systematic review and the ideas of authors who researched on. We conducted a literature search and data collection we used the online media: Public Domain, Portal Capes, Graduate Programs in Education and libraries of theses and dissertations of Higher Education Institutions. Points to significant growth in research in quantitative terms, but still some gaps in specific aspects, in particular, education of the elderly. |

O processo de envelhecimento e a velhice são revestidos de preconceitos e de estigmas negativos. Apesar do crescimento e envelhecimento demográfico, o Brasil ainda não equacionou satisfatoriamente o preceito legal acerca da educação para o idoso. Este artigo objetiva refletir sobre as políticas públicas e a educação para o idoso e apresentar um levantamento das temáticas abordadas nas teses e dissertações sobre o idoso, realizadas entre 2000 e 2009, nos Cursos reconhecidos e recomendados pela Capes, traçando assim o estado do conhecimento dessa temática. O referencial teórico baseia-se em uma revisão sistemática e nas ideias de autores que investigam o tema. Realizou-se uma pesquisa bibliográfica e, para coleta de dados, utilizaram-se os meios online: Domínio Público, Portal da Capes, Programas de Pós-Graduação em Educação e bibliotecas de teses e dissertações das Instituições de Ensino Superior. Aponta-se um crescimento significativo nas investigações, em termos quantitativos, embora ainda apresente algumas lacunas em aspectos específicos, em especial, a educação do idoso.
