Morality, vocation, prudence and caring: a hard art to be a primary teacher in the imperial state of Pará (1838-1851)

Resumo:  This article aims to investigate the condition of primary education teacher from the point of view of the presidents of the province of Pará, from the discourse of Soares Andréa in 1838 to the law 203 of 1851, approaching those days idea of a good teacher, the opinion about the teachers at work in the province and the actual conditions in which this professional acted. In their reports, speeches and discourses, presidents dealt with the general state of education and pointed out teachers in this scenario, highlighting their more specific comments on this professional as well as the conception of his work, as well as the established guidelines and requirements. The article is the result of a broader research on public education in Pará during the Second Empire, more specifically, between 1840 and 1852.

The article is the result of a broader research on public education in Pará during the Second Empire, more specifically, between 1840 and 1852. Este artículo, resultante de una investigación más amplia hecha acerca de la educación pública en Pará durante el Segundo Imperio, se propone investigar la condición de maestro de escuela primaria bajo el punto de vista de los presidentes de la provincia de Pará, desde el discurso de Soares Andréa en 1838 a la ley 203 de 1851, tratando la idea que se hacía de un buen maestro, la opinión acerca de los maestros en el trabajo en la provincia y las reales condiciones en las cuales este profesional actuaba. En sus informes, relatos y discursos, los presidentes trataban del estado general de la educación y ubicaban a los profesores en este escenario, destacando sus observaciones más específicas sobre este profesional, así como su concepción sobre su trabajo, las directrices establecidas y los requisitos requeridos.Este artigo resulta de pesquisa mais ampla sobre a instrução pública no Pará no Segundo Reinado. Sua proposta é investigar a condição do professor primário do ponto de vista dos presidentes da província do Pará, desde o discurso de Soares Andréa em 1838 até a lei 203 de 1851.
