Resumo: | This study is the result of a master’s thesis of the Graduate Program in Education for Science and Mathematics, PCM-UEM. The goal was to historically investigate the process of creating the course of mathematics at the State University of Maringa and the development of the course in the first years in the period between 1969 and 1982. In this article, we aimed to present the historical narrative of the course of mathematics of UEM, built in the master’s thesis. This work is inserted in the subject of History of Mathematics in Brazil and the presented narrative is structured through three intertwinedperspectives: documentary, oral and literature. Our analyses showed that the course of Mathematics at UEM was created to help in the development and visibility of the city of Maringá, to create an opening for the engineering courses and to remedy gaps of teachers in secondary education in the region at that time. |

El presente trabajo es resultado de una disertación de máster vinculada al Programa de Postgrado en Educación para la Ciencia y las Matemáticas PCM-UEM. El objetivo en aquella investigación fue estudiar históricamente el proceso de creación del curso de matemáticas de la Universidad Estatal de Maringá y el desarrollo del curso en sus primeros años en un período comprendido entre 1969 y 1982. En este artículo, el objetivo es presentar la narración histórica del curso de matemáticas de la UEM construida en la disertación. Este trabajo está insertado en el tema de la historia de la matemática en Brasil y la narración presentada es estructurada por medio del entrelazamiento de tres perspectivas: la documental, la oral y la bibliográfica. Nuestros análisis evidencian que el curso de matemáticas de la UEM fue creado para ayudar en el desarrollo y en la visibilidad de la ciudad de Maringá, generar una apertura para los cursos de ingeniería y subsanar lagunas de profesores de la enseñanza secundaria de la región en aquella época. O presente trabalho é resultado de uma dissertação de mestrado vinculada ao Programa de Pós-Graduação em Educação para a Ciência e a Matemática PCM-UEM. O objetivo naquela pesquisa foi investigar historicamente o processo de criação do curso de matemática da Universidade Estadual de Maringá e o desenvolvimento do curso em seus primeiros anos em um período compreendido entre 1969 e 1982. Neste artigo o objetivo é apresentar a narrativa histórica do curso de matemática da UEM construída na dissertação. Este trabalho está inserido no tema da história da matemática no Brasil e a narrativa apresentada é estruturada por meio do entrelaçamento de três perspectivas: a documental, a oral e a bibliográfica. As nossas análises evidenciam que o curso de matemática da UEM foi criado para ajudar no desenvolvimento e na visibilidade da cidade de Maringá, gerar uma abertura para os cursos de engenharia e sanar lacunas de professores do ensino secundário da região naquela época.
