Resumo: Although researches on lingua franca are at early stages in Brazil, there has been a growing interest on this perspective. In this paper, we aim at discussing the legitimate doubts raised by those engaged in the discussion of the distinctions between English as a foreign language and English as lingua franca. We stress the challenges for teacher education courses and present some parameters to be taken into account in teacher education courses including such status.

We stress the challenges for teacher education courses and present some parameters to be taken into account in teacher education courses including such status.   Embora as pesquisas sobre o inglês como língua franca ainda sejam incipientes no Brasil, pode-se afirmar que tem havido um crescente interesse por esta perspectiva nos últimos anos. Neste artigo objetivamos discutir dúvidas legítimas de quem foi convidado a engajar-se na discussão das distinções entre inglês como língua estrangeira e como língua franca.
