Resumo: | Current research discusses Seneca’s idea of the human person who was not only subjected to the turmoil of society but was also an enslaved being, or rather, a sick and perturbed person owing to the rationality of his own soul. Warranting somehow a certain affinity to the deity, the soul hindered him from attaining the perfection to which he had a calling. Such a pessimistic point of view, however, did not affect Seneca’s optimism. In fact, the philosopher found in rationality the path towards which man would accomplish the aims he was born to, or rather, the supreme good, perfection, happiness: ‘to live according to one’s own nature”. |

In fact, the philosopher found in rationality the path towards which man would accomplish the aims he was born to, or rather, the supreme good, perfection, happiness: ‘to live according to one’s own nature”.Propõe-se com o presente trabalho fazer algumas reflexões a respeito da concepção de Sêneca sobre o homem, que, segundo acreditava o filósofo, para além de racional estava submetido às inquietações da sociedade, era um ser escravizado, enfermo e atormentado pela sua materialidade.
