Institutionalization of Distance Education: in what process of institutionalization are we?

Resumo: | Among the theoretical possibilities of analysis we opted for the use of institutional theory, since it enables it to analyze the institutionalization process of distance education (DE), within higher education institutions (HEI). In general, institutional theory provides to find out if distance education is a structure that is or not consolidating and how HRI are working with this new arrangement (Tolbert & Zucker, 1999), that is, if it is institutionalizing. In the meantime, this essay proposes to analyze at what stage of the institutionalization process to DE is in Brazil, from the perspective of Tolbert and Zucker (1999). With the intention of raising an initial reflection, the theoretical framework deals with institutional theory, institutionalization processes, distance education (DE) and a discussion about distance education and institutionalization was held. In view of the exposed considerations, DE's institutionalization process is considered to be complex, and consists of knowledge and exchange of experiences between the agents. In addition, the DE should be seen as a different modality and methodology of teaching and learning. |

In addition, the DE should be seen as a different modality and methodology of teaching and learning.Dentre as possibilidades teóricas de análise, optou-se pelo uso da Teoria Institucional, uma vez que ela permite analisar o processo de institucionalização da Educação a Distância (EaD) dentro das instituições de ensino superior (IES). De uma forma geral, a Teoria Institucional proporciona averiguar se a EaD é uma estrutura que está se consolidando ou não e como as IES estão trabalhando com esse novo arranjo (Tolbert & Zucker, 1999). Neste ínterim, este ensaio se propõe a analisar, a partir da perspectiva de Tolbert e Zucker (1999), em que fase do processo de institucionalização a EaD está no Brasil. A fim de levantar uma reflexão inicial, o arcabouço teórico trata da Teoria Institucional, dos processos de institucionalização e da EaD; ainda, foi realizada uma discussão acerca da EaD e sua institucionalização. Diante das considerações expostas, percebe-se que o processo de institucionalização da EaD é complexo e consiste em conhecimento e troca de experiências entre os agentes.
