Resumo: We intended to present in this article the partial results of the research that has been developed in Maringá State Prision. The aim was to analyze the mediator’s role - the librarian - one intern who has access to reading. An interview with the subject of our research was carried out. Two types of questionings were made: 1) subjects regarding the history of the intern’s reading - librarian; and 2) subjects regarding the relationship/organization of the library inside the institution. Besides, aspects related to the institution operation as well as the operation of its school were investigated. The theoretical supporting authors were: Michel Foucault; Michelle Perrot, Michèle Petit and Erving Goffman. The analyses indicate so far: a) the librarian’s strategies to exercise the mediator’s role b) strategies to form the collection.

The analyses indicate so far: a) the librarian’s strategies to exercise the mediator’s role b) strategies to form the collection.Pretendemos, neste artigo, apresentar os resultados parciais da pesquisa que estamos desenvolvendo na Penitenciária Estadual do Município de Maringá, PR, na qual objetivamos analisar o papel do mediador - bibliotecário - interno apenado no acesso à leitura. Para tanto, realizamos uma entrevista com o sujeito de nossa pesquisa, centrada em dois tipos de questionamento, a saber: 1) questões referentes à história de leitura do interno - bibliotecário; e 2) questões referentes ao funcionamento/organização da biblioteca. Além disso, promovemos um levantamento da história da instituição, investigando tanto os aspectos relativos ao funcionamento da mesma bem como do funcionamento da escola que aí se encontra. Utilizamos como referencial teórico autores como Michel Foucault, Michelle Perrot, Michèle Petit e Erving Goffman.
