Resumo: This paper aims at outlining some aspects of the cultural sociology on the influence of the puritan ethics in the scientific community, and its contribution to the scientific and technological progress on the English economy of the 17th century. Studies by Merton, which relate Puritanism with science, show that the religious ethics was progressively being converted to favorable values to science.
