Resumo: The aim of this article is to investigate the work-centered mobility notion. Therefore a historical survey of the classic economists who incorporated this concept was carried out and its use critically evaluated. Starting from the historical materialism, a more consistent application of the notion of mobility. The idea of forced mobility established twenty years ago by Jean Paul de Gaudemar and centered on Marx’s value/work concept, has been observed, which has trough an important theoretical contribution to the studies of population geography.

Para tanto, é desenvolvido um apanhado histórico dos economistas clássicos que incorporaram essa noção, avaliando criticamente o seu uso. A partir do materialismo histórico, observamos uma aplicação mais consistente da noção de mobilidade, a idéia de “mobilidade forçada”, que foi desenvolvida a mais de vinte anos por Jean Paul de Gaudemar e que centra sua análise no conceito de valor/trabalho, desenvolvido por Marx.
