Resumo: Research evaluated the selectivity of herbicides applied to sugarcane, Saccharum spp. (Poaceae), with no weed interference. Twofold checks were undertaken and data were analyzed in two different ways. First, areas treated with herbicides were compared to the average value of all twofold checks. In this case, the conventional method for studying selectivity, herbicide affected neither growth nor yield characteristics. This led to the conclusion that all herbicides applied were selective to sugarcane. Second, when each herbicide was compared to the average values of its own twofold check, a different behavior was observed. Many herbicides were non selective to sugarcane crop
