Resumo: The relationship between vegetation in public squares and the urban population of Maringá PR Brazil is provided. The aim of this research was to analyze the attraction vegetation exerts on the visitors of public places, and at the same time investigates its importance for the city, keeping in mind aesthetic and environmental aspects. Quantitative data as well as a survey to detect people's opinion on the subject were employed. Study showed that the vegetation in public squares has an attractive character to people in general. It claims continuous policies of maintenance and preservation of these public places

Procura-se verificar o papel de atração que a vegetação exerce sobre o visitante desses espaços públicos, ao mesmo tempo em que se analisa sua importância para a cidade, considerando-se seus aspectos estéticos e ambientais. Para se atingirem os objetivos propostos adotou-se como método o levantamento de natureza quantitativa e qualitativa e uma enquete de opinião.
