Resumo: The present work assessed the effects of the temperature on the feed ingestion by pacu (Piaractus mesopotamicus) determining the feed behavior based on appetite revival and satiation. Ninety-six 160g pacus were placed in 150-liter experimental aquariums with continuous water flow and fed a commercial floating feed containing 28% crude protein. To determine the appetite revival time, for each aquarium, fish from all repetitions were fed at the zero time. Fish form each aquarium was reefed at intervals of 60 min. The way, fish from aquarium one were reefed one hour after initial feeding, those of the aquarium two, two hours after, and subsequently until 24 hours after, for each temperature tested. To determine the feeding ingestion and satiation time, in each of the six observations, fish were fed several times until they no more search for food. Time was registered from the beginning to the end feeding. The satiation time was calculated in each aquarium through the mean of ingestion time. The statistical designs varied according to the characteristics of each trial. Fish were observed to feed better in the afternoons (6,53 and 3,97g for 23 and 27°C respectively), although time spent for the feed ingestion was similar to that spent in the mornings 8,18 and 7,84min for 23 and 27°C, respectively. The daily feed consumption was influenced by temperature, showing ingestion indexes of 2,29 and 2,97% of body weight per day at 23 and 27ºC, respectively. The two tested temperatures provided the same TRA (10,43g), evidenced by the greatest value observed for the food consumption after a 11:00h fast period.

Foram utilizados 96 juvenis de pacu com peso aproximado de 160g, alojados em aquários de 150 litros, com fluxo de água contínuo. Utilizou-se ração extrusada comercial, contendo 28% de proteína bruta, e as temperaturas de cultivo analisadas foram 23°C e 27°C. Para o ensaio do tempo de retorno do apetite (TRA), no tempo considerado zero, para cada uma das parcelas, os peixes de todas as repetições foram alimentados. A realimentação ocorreu em um aquário de cada vez, em intervalos de 60 minutos. Dessa forma, os peixes do aquário um receberam a quantidade determinada de ração uma hora após o arraçoamento inicial. Os do aquário dois receberam a ração 2 horas após o arraçoamento inicial, e assim sucessivamente para os aquários de um mesmo tratamento, com a finalidade de se obter uma curva de consumo durante 24 horas. Para consumo alimentar e tempo de saciação, os peixes foram alimentados, repetidas vezes, até que a procura pelo alimento terminasse, em cada uma das 6 observações, em cada aquário. O tempo foi marcado desde o início da alimentação até que não houvesse mais procura pelo alimento por nenhum dos peixes que constituíam uma parcela. O tempo de saciação (TS) foi calculado em cada repetição por meio da média dos tempos de procura pelo alimento, determinado em todas as observações. Os delineamentos experimentais utilizados foram em blocos casualizados ou inteiramente casualizados de acordo com as características de cada ensaio. Observou-se que os peixes alimentavam-se melhor e mais avidamente à tarde (6,53g e 3,97g para o período da tarde e da manhã, respectivamente), embora o tempo para a ingestão da ração tenha sido semelhante ao gasto no período da manhã, 8,18min e 7,84min (para os períodos da manhã e da tarde, respectivamente). O consumo diário de ração foi influenciado pela temperatura, proporcionando índices de ingestão de 2,29% e 2,97% do peso vivo dos peixes ao dia para as temperaturas 23 e 27ºC, respectivamente.
