Resumo: The aim of this study was to examine if the exercise intensities self-selected by normal weight and obese subjects are a suitable stimulus to improve cardiorespiratory fitness. Twenty-two normal weight and 22 obese women performed a graded exercise test to determine maximal physiological parameters and treadmill walking at a self-selected pace. The results of this study demonstrated that for these subject the self-selected walking pace was an effective stimulus to improve cardiorespiratory fitness. Significant differences in oxygen consumption, but not in heart rate and physiological responses at ventilatory threshold, were found between normal weight and obese subjects.

Department of Physical Education - State University of Maringá (UEM), Maringá-PR, Brazil2009-12-23info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionDescriptive ResearchEstudo Ex post factoapplication/pdfhttps://periodicos.uem.br/ojs/index.php/RevEducFis/article/view/6994Journal of Physical Education; Vol 20 No 4 (2009); 587-595Journal of Physical Education; Vol. 20 Núm. 4 (2009); 587-595Journal of Physical Education; v. 20 n. 4 (2009); 587-5952448-2455reponame:Journal of Physical Education (Maringá)instname:Universidade Estadual de Maringá (UEM)instacron:UEMporhttps://periodicos.uem.br/ojs/index.php/RevEducFis/article/view/6994/5233Santos, Bruno ViniciusElsangedy, Hassan MohamedKrinski, KlevertonColombo, HeribertoBuzzachera, Cosme FranklimSilva, Sergio Gregorio dainfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess2023-01-10T15:37:48Zoai:periodicos.uem.br/ojs:article/6994Revistahttp://periodicos.uem.br/ojs/index.php/RevEducFis/indexPUBhttps://old.scielo.br/oai/scielo-oai.php||revdef@uem.br2448-24552448-2455opendoar:2023-01-10T15:37:48Journal of Physical Education (Maringá) - Universidade Estadual de Maringá (UEM)false
