Resumo: The present study was characterized as a descriptive research whose aim was to analyze the causes and consequences of lesions on the articulation of knees in athletes of collective sports. Specifically, this study aimed at: identifying the lesions on the knee articulation and causes; verifying the physiological and anatomical consequences. The sample studied was composed by forty-eight athletes of basketball, volleyball, soccer and handball, who presented a number of lesions on knee articulation which happened during sports practice. As a measuring instrument questionnaires were used. The data collecting was done at physiotherapeutic and orthopedic clinics of Maringá (Ortofísio, Fisiomed, Ortotrauma) and during the 1994 Parana Open Games. The results showed the following conclusions: the lesions with greater incidence on knees were the ligaments lesions and the meniscus lesions. The lower incidence was found on the tendons lesions. The main causes were of traumatic origin (47%) and overburden causes (34%). As consequences of these traumas it was verified that 42% of the athletes presented limitations on their movements and 48% had undergone surgical treatment.

Department of Physical Education - State University of Maringá (UEM), Maringá-PR, Brazil2008-06-10info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://periodicos.uem.br/ojs/index.php/RevEducFis/article/view/3849Journal of Physical Education; Vol 9 No 1 (1998); 83-91Journal of Physical Education; Vol. 9 Núm. 1 (1998); 83-91Journal of Physical Education; v. 9 n. 1 (1998); 83-912448-2455reponame:Journal of Physical Education (Maringá)instname:Universidade Estadual de Maringá (UEM)instacron:UEMporhttps://periodicos.uem.br/ojs/index.php/RevEducFis/article/view/3849/2643Prati, Sérgio Roberto AdrianoVieira, José Luiz Lopesinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess2023-01-10T15:37:26Zoai:periodicos.uem.br/ojs:article/3849Revistahttp://periodicos.uem.br/ojs/index.php/RevEducFis/indexPUBhttps://old.scielo.br/oai/scielo-oai.php||revdef@uem.br2448-24552448-2455opendoar:2023-01-10T15:37:26Journal of Physical Education (Maringá) - Universidade Estadual de Maringá (UEM)false
