Methodological applications: excerpts from Unicamp public health and physical activity

Resumo: Experience from Unicamp Public Health, Epidemiology and Physical Activity – GSCEAF – Group is presented and discussed. For this, composition of some basic concepts, such as publishing in periodicals and annals, methodological modality and methodological profile, was required. Results are divided in two segments. As to first ones, it can be noticed that although Research Lines equitably use descriptive quantitative modality, qualitative methodologies prevail among more doctrinaire ones and inferential quantitative ones prevail among more empirical subjects: it should be pointed out that the option concerning thematic to be worked out implies in the selection of the method to be used and not the opposite. As to the second segment, qualitative studies are predominant at the beginning of considered period and along the years the quantitative inferential ones have prevailed.

As to the second segment, qualitative studies are predominant at the beginning of considered period and along the years the quantitative inferential ones have prevailed.Apresenta-se e discute-se a experiência do Grupo de Saúde Coletiva, Epidemiologia e Atividade Física – GSCEAF da Unicamp, com foco na perspectiva metodológica de sua trajetória de mais de quatrocentos textos publicados nestes vinte anos de existência. Para tanto, foi necessária a composição de alguns conceitos básicos, como publicação em periódicos e anais, modalidade metodológica e perfil metodológico. Dos resultados obtidos, destacou-se o interesse por dois conjuntos de variações: as referentes ao tema e ao período considerado. No primeiro sentido, pode-se apreender que, embora diferentes Linhas de Pesquisa utilizem equitativamente a modalidade quantitativa descritiva, há predomínio de metodologias qualitativas entre as mais doutrinárias, e da quantitativa inferencial entre as mais empiricistas, i.e., optar pela temática implica na escolha do método, e não o oposto.
