Self-steem of the arbitrator of professional soccer of the state of Santa Catarina

Resumo: This descriptive research had the objective of presenting an analysis of the self-esteem thematic concerning the soccer referee position, together with an empiric evaluation of the same category, applied on the board of referees and assistant referees of professional soccer in Santa Catarina. Twenty six subjects, all of them part of the board of CBF (Confederação Brasileira de Futebol), who worked during the 2001 season of Brazilian Championship, were evaluated during the research. One questionnaire containing closed questions about the soccer referee self-esteem was used in the evaluation. The answers showed that both referees and assistant referees present high self-esteem, despite their little knowledge on sport psychology. It was shown that high self-esteem is necessary condition to act as a Brazilian soccer referee.

It was shown that high self-esteem is necessary condition to act as a Brazilian soccer referee.Esta pesquisa, de cunho descritivo, teve o objetivo de apresentar uma análise sobre a temática da auto-estima e percepção de competência para a função de árbitro de futebol profissional, acompanhada de uma avaliação empírica das mesmas categorias, nos quadros de árbitros e árbitros assistentes de futebol profissional do Estado de Santa Catarina. Os sujeitos analisados foram 26 (vinte e seis) árbitros que constavam da lista da CBF (Confederação Brasileira de Futebol), os quais trabalharam durante o campeonato Brasileiro de 2001. Foi utilizado um questionário com perguntas fechadas que tratavam sobre a sua auto-estima. As respostas demonstraram que os árbitros e árbitros assistentes apresentam uma auto-estima elevada, apesar da pouca ou nenhuma formação psicológica no exercício desta atividade e até em cursos de arbitragem.
