Resumo: The relation between a set of tests in specific abilities and the futures performance of College students in the Physical Education Course of UFSC was undertaken. Sixteen (6 males and 10 females) first year PE College Students have participated in this study during the second semester of 1989. The study of students’ specific abilities was performed through an evaluation of somatic (anthropometry and corporal composition), neuromotor (equilibrium, coordenation, muscular force and resistance, speed, agility and flexibility) and cardiorespiratory (maximum oxygen consumption) fields. Students’ performance was determined by a compound mark index. Average, mean deviation, Pearson’s correlation and factorial analysis vere calculated to obtain data statistic analysis. The results did not establish significant correlation between corporal composition, anthropometric, measurements, motor abilities, entrance exam classification and student performance during the first year of the PE course. Results seem to hint that the set of tests on specific abilities in the selection of future PE College students is unnecessary. However, since the study has its proper limitations, it is suggested that other tests (of the longitudinal bind) may be undertaken on the same subject and with more representative samples. Characteristic features of subject matters integrating the school curriculum should be also taken into account.

Department of Physical Education - State University of Maringá (UEM), Maringá-PR, Brazil2008-07-01info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://periodicos.uem.br/ojs/index.php/RevEducFis/article/view/4032Journal of Physical Education; Vol 3 No 1 (1992); 35-38Journal of Physical Education; Vol. 3 Núm. 1 (1992); 35-38Journal of Physical Education; v. 3 n. 1 (1992); 35-382448-2455reponame:Journal of Physical Education (Maringá)instname:Universidade Estadual de Maringá (UEM)instacron:UEMporhttps://periodicos.uem.br/ojs/index.php/RevEducFis/article/view/4032/2781Lopes, Adair da SilvaPetroski, Edio Luizinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess2023-01-10T15:37:31Zoai:periodicos.uem.br/ojs:article/4032Revistahttp://periodicos.uem.br/ojs/index.php/RevEducFis/indexPUBhttps://old.scielo.br/oai/scielo-oai.php||revdef@uem.br2448-24552448-2455opendoar:2023-01-10T15:37:31Journal of Physical Education (Maringá) - Universidade Estadual de Maringá (UEM)false
