Resumo: The objective of the present study was to investigate the influence of the familiarization process to one-repetition maximum test (1-RM) in women with experience in weight training. Eighteen women with experience in weight training performed five sessions of 1-RM test in bench press, squat, and arm curl exercises. ANOVA, Bland and Altman plots, and Pearson´s correlation were the statistics procedures used in data analysis. The stabilization of maximal strength occurred between sessions 2 and 3 for bench press and arm curl, and between sessions 1 and 2 for squat (P < 0.05). The increase in maximal strength from session 1 to the session of stabilization was 4.7%, 7.6% and 11.7% for bench press, squat, and arm curl, respectively. These results suggest that young women with previous experience in weight training need to perform at least two familiarization sessions of 1-RM test in order to minimize mistakes in maximum strength evaluation.
