THE FUTURE MAGAZINE AND THE SOCIALISM OF THE MEXICAN REVOLUCION: Debates on the Educational Reform of 1934.

This article aims to investigate the discourse(s) of the Future Magazine on the Educational Reform of 1934, which instituted socialist education in Mexican schools amid disputes over the ideological orientation of public education. Through the creation of Future Magazine, the union leader, Vicente Lombardo Toledano sought to contribute to the intellectual and political formation of workers, disseminating analyses about the national and international conjuncture from the perspective of dialectical materialism with a Marxist-Leninist cut, including conflicts around the amendment of the third article of the Mexican Constitution of 1917, which established the guidelines for national education. After approval in Congress, the implementation of socialist orientation would be in charge of President Lázaro Cárdenas, with whom Lombardo shared political affinities. Thus, we intend to highlight the divergences of the magazine with the State’s educational project, its proximity and the discursive changes of this journal, verified during the Cardenist mandate (1934-1940).
