THE POLITICAL IDEAS OF CARLOS LACERDA IN THE 1945 TRANSITION: anti-communism and reformism

Resumo: The purpose of this text is to analyze Carlos Lacerda's participation in the political transition of 1945, highlighting his reflections on the historical context. A prestigious journalist in Rio de Janeiro, the former Federal District, Lacerda was one of the biggest critics of the Getúlio Vargas legacy and the support offered by the communists to Vargas in the early 1940s. However, more than that, it is necessary to pay attention to the reformist bias present in his political thinking, expressed in the defense of a combination of social welfare, democracy and freedom accommodated to the capitalist system. With the exception of these considerations, I will base my interpretation on the texts published by Carlos Lacerda in the newspapers Correio da Manhã and Diário Carioca, between 1945 and 1946, seeking to understand the political context and how the journalist positioned himself in the disputes for power.

Prestigioso periodista de Río de Janeiro, ex Distrito Federal, Lacerda fue uno de los mayores críticos del legado de Getúlio Vargas y del apoyo que los comunistas le brindaron a Vargas a principios de la década de 1940. Sin embargo, más allá de eso, es necesario prestar atención al sesgo reformista presente en su pensamiento político, expresado en la defensa de una combinación de bienestar social, democracia y libertad acomodada al sistema capitalista. Además de estas consideraciones, basaré mi interpretación en los textos publicados por Carlos Lacerda en los periódicos Correio da Manhã y Diário Carioca, entre 1945 y 1946, buscando comprender el contexto político y cómo el periodista se posicionaba en las disputas por el poder.O objetivo deste texto é analisar a participação de Carlos Lacerda na transição política de 1945, com destaque para as suas reflexões sobre o contexto histórico. Jornalista prestigiado no Rio de Janeiro, antigo Distrito Federal, Lacerda foi um dos maiores críticos do legado getulista e do apoio oferecido pelos comunistas a Vargas no início dos anos 1940. Porém, mais do que isso, é preciso atentar para o viés reformista presente em seu pensamento político, expresso na defesa de uma combinação entre bem-estar social, democracia e liberdade acomodada ao sistema capitalista.
