Resumo: Este trabalho tem como objetivo realizar alguns apontamentos sobre a conformação da elite no termo de Pitangui- MG. Na primeira metade do século XVIII, os limites geográficos dessa região se confrontavam com o denominado Sertão do São Francisco, onde as instituições representativas do poder reinol ainda não haviam se estabelecido de maneira eficaz. O termo de Pitangui foi marcado por diversos motins e conflitos que em alguns momentos acabaram por questionar a legitimidade do poder metropolitano, práticas essas historicamente relacionadas à ideia de sertão como região marcada pela fragilidade da ordem pública. Sendo assim, pretende-se analisar o perfil das estratégias colocadas em prática pelos indivíduos no sentido de ocupar um lugar privilegiado naquela sociedade constituída em um ambiente de fronteira. Palavras chave: Sertão, Poder, Elite.  FORMATION OF THE ELITE IN TERMO DE PITANGUI:backlands of the Minas Gerais in the first half of the eighteenth centuryAbstract: The aim of this study is to perform some notes on the conformation of the elite in Termo de Pitangui (Minas Gerais/Brazil). In the first half of the eighteenth century, the geographical boundaries of the region were facing the Sertão do San Francisco, where representative institutions of the power of the Portuguese Crown had not yet been established effectively. The Termo de Pitangui was marked by many conflicts and riots that sometimes ended by questioning the legitimacy of the metropolitan power, practices that can be related to the idea of sertão as a region marked by fragility of the action of the authorities representing the power of the Crown. Therefore, we intend to analyze the profile of the strategies put in place by the individual to occupy a social privileged place in this frontier environment. Keywords: Sertão, Power, Elite.
