Resumo: | In this article, I intend to make an initial exploration into the role and influence of the provincial president in Maranhão’s provincial political disputes, between the 1840s and 1850s. For this purpose, I will narrate, briefly, three similar cases that are related to the longest-serving presidents. Thus, I seek to illustrate the extent to which imperial government delegates were involved in local disputes and what resources they mobilized when (and if) they did. To identify the configuration of the provincial elite, I will map, based on biographies, information and notably the debates in the newspapers, the formation and organization of political groups that gather around certain projects, interests, perspectives or identities. This will also allow me to verify if this configuration of the groups influences, in some way, the disputes carried on in the Legislative Assembly, locus of action of the provincial political elite. |

Por esto, yo brevemente narraré tres casos similares relacionados con los presidentes con más años de servicio. Por lo tanto, busco ilustrar en qué medida los delegados del gobierno imperial estuvieron involucrados en disputas locales y qué recursos movilizaron cuando (y sí) lo hicieron. Para identificar la configuración de la élite provincial, mapearé, con base en biografías, información y debates notablemente en los periódicos, la formación y organización de grupos políticos que se reúnen en torno a ciertos proyectos, intereses, perspectivas o identidades. Esto también permitirá verificar si esta configuración de los grupos influye, de alguna manera, en las disputas en la Asamblea Legislativa, lugar de acción de la élite política provincial. Neste artigo, pretendo fazer uma primeira incursão sobre o papel e a influência do presidente da província na disputa política provincial maranhense, entre as décadas de 1840 e 1850. Para isso, narrarei brevemente três casos similares relacionados aos presidentes mais longevos em seus cargos. Assim, busco ilustrar em que medida os delegados do governo imperial se envolviam nas disputas locais e quais recursos mobilizavam quando (e se) o faziam. Para identificar a configuração da elite provincial, mapearei, a partir de biografias, informações e especialmente dos debates nos jornais, a formação e organização dos grupos políticos que se aglutinam em torno de determinados projetos, interesses, perspectivas ou identidades.
