Resumo: The present study has as its theme the representations of violence in the films God´s city (2002) and Elite Squad (2007). Where the goal is to understand some of the representations of violence, especially trafficking, found with the focus groups of the films. In order to clarify why violence was once again a common theme in Brazilian film productions in the 1990s and 2000s, even enabling the creation of a “Brazilian genre” that is conventionally called the Favela Movie. The choice of this theme arose in the need to understand why the theme of violence is present throughout the history of Brazilian cinema, as well as, has become protagonists in recent decades. When analyzing recent Brazilian cinema, it can be seen that the excess of film with the theme of violence in the peripheries is linked to the historical period of which they are part.

When analyzing recent Brazilian cinema, it can be seen that the excess of film with the theme of violence in the peripheries is linked to the historical period of which they are part.O presente estudo tem como tema as representações da violência nos filmes Cidade de Deus (2002) e Tropa de elite (2007), onde o objetivo é compreender algumas das representações da violência, sobretudo o tráfico, encontradas junto aos grupos enfocados dos filmes de modo que possa esclarecer o porquê a violência voltou a ser tema comum nas produções cinematográficas brasileiras nas décadas de 1990 e 2000, possibilitando até a criação de um “gênero brasileiro” que se convencionou chamar de Favela Movie. A escolha deste tema surgiu na necessidade de compreender porque o tema da violência está presente em toda a história do cinema brasileiro, bem como, voltou a ser protagonista nas últimas décadas.
