The article has as an objective to problematize the image that quilombola students from Chumbo construct of themselves and their territory, starting with the look of “others” and how the school is positioned in front of the negativism that crosses that self-image. The investigation is inserted in the qualitative ethnographic inquiry and had as collecting instruments, the observation and interviews with managers and professors of Nossa Senhora de Aparecida School. The results point out that the looks of the “others” are definers by excellence of the negative image that the students have of themselves and their territory. It is perceived the school effort in reversing that process of negativism, but still it is a non systematic work and represents a challenge to the modality of Quilombola School Education.
