Education for consumption in Portuguese language textbooks for New High School: a discursive analysis

Resumo: The objective of this study is to analyze how discourses about education for consumption are constituted in Textbooks (LD) of Portuguese Language (LP) of the New Middle School (NEM). To do so, we resort to the theoretical subsidies of Michel Foucault, about discourse and power, as well as authors who reflect on education for consumption, such as Gomes (2006) and Medina and Santos (1999). The corpus of analysis comprises two textbooks of LP, approved by the National Book and Teaching Material Program (PNLD), of 2021, namely: Languages in Interaction, by Juliana Vegas Chinaglia, published by Editora IBEP and Ser Protagonista - A voz das youths, a collective work, conceived, developed, produced and published by Edições SM. Although the two collections of books analyzed address the theme in a different way, that is, each one deals with consumerism from another angle, it is noticeable that the materials included consumption practices that young people are used to, especially in relation to digital technologies.

Para tanto, recorre-se aos subsídios teóricos de Michel Foucault, acerca do discurso e do poder, bem como de autores que refletem sobre a educação para o consumo, a exemplo de Gomes (2006) e Medina e Santos (1999). O corpus de análise compreende dois LD de LP, aprovados pelo Programa Nacional do Livro e do Material Didático (PNLD), de 2021, quais sejam: Linguagens em Interação, de Juliana Vegas Chinaglia, publicada pela Editora IBEP e Ser Protagonista - A voz das juventudes, uma obra coletiva, concebida, desenvolvida, produzida e publicada pela Edições SM.
