Resumo: The beginning of the 21st century has witnessed a significant growth in land transactions worldwide. This land rush has been referred to by the term land grabbing, understood as land appropriation – an idea directly linked to accumulation by spoliation and the increased reproduction of capital described by David Harvey, and it raises concerns about its economic, social and environmental impacts. The main purposes of this article are to analyze the initiatives of international organizations for the global regulation of these transactions, created mainly from 2008, and to discuss their effects on the land grabbing phenomenon.
