From marginalization to centrality: the importance of black representativeness in children’s and young adult literature

Resumo: The role of children’s and young adult literature in the construction of black children’s identities and in the establishment of positive ethnic-racial relationships still needs discussion and recognition. Therefore, this article aimed to promote some considerations about black authorship and the characterization of black characters in literary works. As powerful narratives for the inclusion of diversity Zum Zum Zumbiiiiiiiii and Olelê: an ancient song from Africa stood out. The study was based on bibliographical research, educational norms, Afrocentricity (ASANTE, 2009) and Afro-Brazilian civilizing values ​​(TRINDADE, 2010). Given what was analyzed, we verified the relevance of children’s and young adult literature on black themes in order to expand children’s perception of the world, respecting differences, valuing the history of the black population and racial identification. Para ello, este artículo tuvo como objetivo promover algunas consideraciones sobre la autoría negra y la caracterización de los personajes negros en obras literarias. Se destacaron en él Zum Zum Zumbiiiiiiiii y Olelê: Uma antiga cantiga da África como narrativas potentes para la inclusión de la diversidad. El estudio se basó en investigación bibliográfica, en las normas educativas, en la afrocentricidad (ASANTE, 2009) y en los valores civilizadores afrobrasileños (TRINDADE, 2010). Ante lo que fue analizado, se verificó la relevancia de la literatura infantil y juvenil de temática negra en la ampliación de la percepción del mundo de los niños, en respeto a las diferencias, a la valoración de la historia de la población negra y a la identificación racial. Para tanto, este artigo objetivou promover algumas considerações sobre a autoria negra e a caracterização dos personagens negros em obras literárias. Destacaram-se nele Zum Zum Zumbiiiiiiii e Olelê: uma antiga cantiga da África como narrativas potentes para a inclusão da diversidade. O estudo assentou-se na pesquisa bibliográfica, nas normas educacionais, na afrocentricidade (ASANTE, 2009) e nos valores civilizatórios afro-brasileiros (TRINDADE, 2010). Diante do que foi analisado, verificou-se a relevância da literatura infantojuvenil de temática negra na ampliação da percepção de mundo das crianças, no respeito às diferenças, na valorização da história da população negra e na identificação racial.
