Educommunication and media literacy: Freirean dialogues in Latin America

Resumo: This article presents the contributions of Paulo Freire’s thinking to Media and Education studies and the construction of the concept of Educommunication. For this purpose, a mapping of scientific productions on the theme in Latin America was carried out, with the aim of raising the main fundamentals and recurrent authors in the publications analyzed and their articulation with Freire’s assumptions in the field of Media-Education. It was a qualitative study, whose methodological path included systematic and integrative reviews of selected articles in the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) database from 2011 to 2019. The discussion signals that the educommunicative field and its multidisciplinary performance emerged and was consolidated from Paulo Freire’s assumptions about communication/education interface and was developed through public policies and school practices that aimed at the emancipation of the subject. Para ello se realizó un mapeo de las producciones científicas sobre el tema en América Latina, con el objetivo de relevar los principales fundamentos y autores recurrentes en las publicaciones analizadas y su articulación con los supuestos de Freire en el campo de la educación mediática. Fue un estudio cualitativo, cuyo recorrido metodológico incluye revisiones sistemáticas e integradoras de artículos seleccionados en el portal de revistas de la Biblioteca Electrónica Científica Online (SciELO) entre los años de 2011 a 2019. La discusión señala que el campo educomunicativo y su desempeño multidisciplinario surgió y se consolidó a partir de los supuestos de Paulo Freire sobre la interfaz comunicación/educación, y se desarrolló por medio de políticas públicas y prácticas escolares que apuntan a la emancipación del sujeto.  Palabras clave: Paulo Freire. Media-educación. Educomunicación.Este artigo apresenta as contribuições do pensamento de Paulo Freire para os estudos sobre mídia e educação e a construção do conceito de Educomunicação. Para tanto, realizou-se um mapeamento das produções científicas sobre o tema na América Latina, com o intuito de levantar os principais fundamentos e autores recorrentes nas publicações analisadas e sua articulação com os pressupostos freireanos no campo da mídia-educação. Foi um estudo qualitativo, cujo percurso metodológico incluiu revisões sistemáticas e integrativas de artigos selecionados no portal de periódicos da Biblioteca Eletrônica Científica Online (SciELO) entre os anos de 2011 e 2019. A discussão sinaliza que o campo educomunicativo e sua atuação multidisciplinar surgiu e se consolidou a partir dos pressupostos de Paulo Freire sobre a interface comunicação/educação e se desenvolveu por meio de políticas públicas e práticas escolares que objetivavam a emancipação do sujeito.
