Folkcommunication : Fundamental epistemological links between Communication and Folklore

Resumo: The article seeks to review the epistemological foundations that allowed the emergence of Folkcommunication, formulated in the 1960s by Luiz Beltrão, from the folklore studies. More specifically with one of its aspects: the dialectic folkloristics, whose great exponent was Edison Carneiro and who had the readings of Antônio Gramsci as a matrix of thought. In this work, we explore the various possible understandings for the term folklore – demarcating, in the process, our working definition. Then we discuss the reasons why certain terms proposed as substitutes are insufficient to account for the scope of the phenomenon. Finally, we outline the similarities between Carneiro and Beltrão, showing how the sensibilities evoked by this text are not foreign to the field of Communication: the understanding of traditional popular culture as an element of criticism and commentary, resistance and transformation.

Más específicamente con uno de sus aspectos: la folclorística dialéctica, cuyo gran exponente fue Edison Carneiro y que tuvo como matriz de pensamiento las lecturas de Antônio Gramsci. En este trabajo, exploramos las diversas interpretaciones posibles del término folclore, demarcando, en el proceso, nuestra definición de trabajo. Luego discutimos las razones por las cuales ciertos términos propuestos como sustitutos son insuficientes para dar cuenta del alcance del fenómeno. Finalmente, esbozamos las similitudes entre Carneiro y Beltrão, mostrando cómo las sensibilidades evocadas por este texto no son ajenas al campo de la Comunicación: la comprensión de la cultura popular tradicional como elemento de crítica y comentario, de resistencia y de transformación.O artigo busca repassar os fundamentos epistemológicos que permitiram a emergência da Folkcomunicação, formulada na década de 1960 por Luiz Beltrão, a partir dos estudos folclóricos. Mais especificamente com uma de suas vertentes: a folclorística dialética, cujo grande expoente foi Edison Carneiro e que tinha como matriz de pensamento as leituras de Antônio Gramsci. Neste trabalho exploramos, de início, os diversos entendimentos possíveis para o termo folclore – demarcando, no processo, nossa definição de trabalho. Em seguida discorremos os motivos pelos quais certos termos propostos como substitutivos são insuficientes para dar conta da abrangência do fenômeno.
