Resumo: : The article analyzes the impacts of the new coronavirus pandemic on families and challenges for health care in this context. The theoreticalmethodological framework considers the intensification of social, racial and gender inequalities in the pandemic with effects on facing the socio-sanitary phenomenon in Brazil. The bibliographical study recovers the debate on social policy, its foundations in family centrality as the main instance of social protection, and developments for health care. Faced with the pandemic scenario, we highlight the main state measures used to fight the virus in Brazil, which experiences a worrying panorama in the global context in relation to COVID-19. The new coronavirus and the increase in its lethality impact thepopulation in different ways and hit the working class hard. In addition to the dismantling of social policies, with the arrival of the new coronavirus, familism is reinforced, especially for black women as the main care providers.

O referencial teórico-metodológico considera a intensificação das desigualdades sociais, raciais e de gênero na pandemia, com efeitos no enfrentamento do fenômeno socio-sanitário no Brasil. O estudo, de caráter bibliográfico, recupera o debate sobre política social, seus fundamentos na centralidade familiar como principal instância de proteção social, e desdobramentos para a assistência em saúde. Frente ao cenário da pandemia, destacamos as principais medidas estatais utilizadas no enfrentamento ao vírus no Brasil, que vivencia um panorama preocupante no contexto mundial em relação à COVID-19. O novo coronavírus e o aumento da sua letalidade impacta a população de formas distintas e atinge em cheio a classe trabalhadora.
