Pedagogical intervention with concrete and electronic games: the Quarto and the construction of elementary logical structures

Resumo: Considering the need to analyze the effects of increasing exposure to technology on children's development and the construction of cognitive structures through rule games, the article presents data from an investigation that compared the use of the game Quarto in concrete and electronic modalities. Thirty-eight children between the ages of seven and ten took part, divided into three groups: experimental 1, who played Quarto in its electronic version; experimental 2, who played the same game in its concrete version; and control, who did not take part in the interventions. To assess the effects of the interventions, the groups were given pre- and post-tests, using three operant tests: number conservation, class inclusion and seriation. The results showed advances in cognitive structuring compared to the control group, but no significant differences between the two experimental groups. Reflections on interventions using games are presented.

Participaron 38 niños de entre siete y diez años, divididos en tres grupos: experimental 1, que jugó al Quarto en su versión electrónica; experimental 2, que jugó al mismo juego en su versión concreta; y control, que no participó en las intervenciones. Para evaluar los efectos de las intervenciones, los grupos se sometieron a pruebas previas y posteriores, utilizando tres pruebas operantes: conservación de números, inclusión en clases y seriación. Los resultados mostraron avances en la estructuración cognitiva en comparación con el grupo de control, pero sin diferencias significativas entre los dos grupos experimentales. Se presentan reflexiones sobre las intervenciones mediante juegos.Considerando a necessária análise sobre os efeitos da exposição crescente à tecnologia para o desenvolvimento das crianças e a construção de estruturas cognitivas por meio de jogos de regras, o artigo apresenta dados de investigação que comparou o uso do jogo Quarto na modalidade concreta e eletrônica. Participaram 38 crianças, com faixa etária de sete a dez anos, divididas em três grupos: experimental 1 que jogou o Quarto na versão eletrônica; experimental 2 que jogou o mesmo jogo na versão concreta e controle, que não participou das intervenções. Para a avaliação dos efeitos das intervenções os grupos foram submetidos a pré e pós-testes, mediante a aplicação de três provas operatórias: conservação do número, inclusão de classes e seriação. Os resultados mostraram avanços na estruturação cognitiva em relação ao grupo controle, porém sem diferenças significativas entre os dois grupos experimentais.
