Resumo: <doi>10.12957/tecap.2014.16237This paper presents the way the Museum of Art and Popular Culture from the UFMT and other museum institutions in the Midwest manage collections comprised of works of art which are classified as “contemporary” and “popular”. The relationship between the two artistic vocabularies was marked by the transformation of the region’s art scene through negotiation and dialogue between artistic and patrimonial exogenous values and local cultural agents, focused on empowering and legitimizing the local art history.
