Resumo: Brief explanation of the panorama in which the biographical genre picks up in the transition from the 20th to the 21st century, as proposed by Leon Edel and François Dosse. With this background, the specific circumstances in which this phenomenon develops with the Mexican academy are traced. With such outlined scenarios, it is intended to specify what is sought now, how it is investigated, what sources it is made and, above all, why this biography is carried out by historians, who are first social scientists. Is there a scientific cause or does it permeate a literary tone? What is the heuristic proposal?
