Resumo: Environmental education is an educational proposal that seeks a change of habits, attitudes and social practices for a solution to the framework of socio-environmental degradation. Despite the strategies proposed by the Brasilian National Curriculum, the environmental issue still impacts the educational practices within school walls, and therefore demands structural and pedagogical changes within education, a rethinking of the role of schools in contemporary society, and their responsibility in forming sustainable societies. Against this, become necessaries the reflection and the creation of possibilities for change on environmental issues. In this sense, "The studies of the Environmental" is a method of teaching and researching which values the diversity of knowledge, encourages the coexistence of ideas, and reveals the complexity of the relationship between society and the environment, all of which allow for.

Apesar das estratégias propostas pelos Parâmetros Curriculares Nacionais, o tema ambiental ainda esbarra na disciplinaridade e nos muros da escola e, assim, demanda mudanças estruturais e pedagógicas sobre o fazer educativo, repensando o papel da escola na sociedade contemporânea e sua responsabilidade na formação de sociedades sustentáveis. O “Estudo do Meio”, nesse sentido, é um método de ensino e pesquisa que valoriza a diversidade de saberes, estimula a convivência de idéias e revela a complexidade da relação sociedade e meio ambiente, permitindo a reflexão e criação de possibilidades de mudança sobre as questões socioambientais levantadas no processo de investigação.La Educación Ambiental es una propuesta educativa que busca cambios de hábitos, actitudes y prácticas sociales como solución frente a la degradación socio ambiental. A pesar de las estrategias propuestas por los Parâmetros Curriculares Nacionais, el tema ambiental todavía tropieza con la disciplinaridad y con su restricción a los muros de la escuela y, de esta manera, demanda cambios estructurales y pedagógicos en el quehacer educativo, para repensar el rol de la escuela en la sociedad contemporánea y su responsabilidad en la formación de sociedades sustentables. Para hacer frente a eso, son necesarias la reflexión y la creación de posibilidades de cambios en las cuestiones socio ambientales.
