Resumo: AbstractThe article discusses the implementation of social housing by the “Minha Casa, Minha vida” (MCMV) - My House, My Life - program regarding the concept of housing and sustainability principles related to the peripheralization process. The text aims to identify urban and socio-environmental characteristics of existing cases in the Metropolitan Region of Curitiba, to understand possibilities of future advances in the socio-environmental quality in these public policies. The methodological procedures included a quantitative and qualitative approach; use of the QGIS geoprocessing software. The analysis strategy applied Blue House Seal methodology, considered the most suitable system for assessing social housing in Brazil evaluating 53 sub-items: urban quality, design and comfort, energy efficiency, conservation of material resources, management water and social practices. The results showed that the MCMV does not apply the full concept of housing; assumes the financing of the enterprise, however, not its sustainability; passes on to other actors (city halls, businessmen, users) items such as the development of social action programs and projects; solution of eventual architectural and urban problems. This process amplifies the social periphery, a citizen due to the difficulties in accessing the residents to opportunities for educational, professional and individual fulfillment, relegating, finally, to the users, the sustainability of the buildings.
