Resumo: This article discusses some of the language resources utilized by the narrators in Bernardo Carvalho’s Nine Nights in order to structure themselves as subjects. It analyzes the polarity of the participants in the discourse, which is a necessary condition for the process of structuring the “self”, according to Benveniste, and relates such polarity to the textual genres through which the novel is structured.
