This research deals with the importance of fieldwork in the teaching of school geography. A subject of great relevance to geographic knowledge, the fieldwork has already presented moments of greater and lesser discussion in the academy. Nowadays it has been resumed with the increase of the number of scientific works, but still, when compared to other contents of the geography, this presents a reduced number of texts. Therefore, there was continuity and due attention to the theme, aiming to expand the material collection, especially with regard to school education. Thus, in this research, we sought to understand the role of fieldwork in the construction and consolidation of geographic reasoning, insofar as it realizes and enhances the movement of ascension from the abstract to the concrete and the concrete-thought. Therefore, it was necessary to apply a case study in a real school, under the challenge of fulfilling the role of research teacher. Thus, to the extent that a specific methodology developed by us was applied, the data necessary for the investigation were also collected. Only in this way was it possible to arrive at positive considerations about the direct influences that the field work exerts in the development of the conceptual structure of thought of the investigated students.
